Effects
Oxytetracycline has a broad spectrum of anti-pathogenic microorganisms and is a rapid antibacterial agent. It has a bactericidal effect on certain bacteria at high concentrations.
This product has strong antibacterial activity against pneumococci, Streptococcus pyogenes, gonococci, meningococci, Escherichia coli, aerogenes, Shigella, Yersinia, Listeria monocytogenes, etc.; in addition, oxytetracycline also has a strong effect on Rickettsia, Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, Actinomycetes, etc. The mechanism of action of oxytetracycline is that it can specifically bind to the A position of the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, preventing the connection of aminoacyl-tRNA at this position, thereby inhibiting the growth of the peptide chain and affecting the protein synthesis of bacteria or other pathogenic microorganisms, thereby exerting antibacterial activity.
What diseases can oxytetracycline be used to treat?
For the treatment of rickettsial diseases, including epidemic typhus, endemic typhus, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, scrub typhus and Q fever;
For the treatment of mycoplasma infections;
For chlamydia infections, including psittacosis, venereal diseases, lymphoedema, nonspecific urethritis, salpingitis, cervicitis and trachoma;
Also used for relapsing fever, brucellosis, cholera, tularemia, plague, chancroid.
What drugs are oxytetracycline often used with?
When treating brucellosis and plague, it needs to be used in combination with aminoglycoside drugs.
