This product is the levorotatory form of tetramisole, which can selectively inhibit succinate dehydrogenase in the muscles of the worm, so that fumaric acid cannot be reduced to succinic acid, thereby affecting the anaerobic metabolism of the muscles of the worm and reducing energy production. When the worm comes into contact with it, it can depolarize the nerve muscles, and the muscles will continue to contract and paralyze; the drug's mimetic cholinergic effect is conducive to the excretion of the worm. Its activity is about 1~2 times that of tetramisole (racemic form), and its toxic side effects are low. The drug may have an inhibitory effect on the microtubule structure of the worm. Levamisole also has immunomodulatory and immune excitation functions.
It has a good effect on roundworms, hookworms, pinworms and stercoralis. Since this product has a high single-dose efficacy, it is suitable for collective treatment. The activity against Bancroftian filariae, Malayan Brugia and Onchocerca volvulus adults and microfilariae is higher than that of ethopropazine, but the long-term efficacy is poor.
Usage and Dosage
1. Ascaris removal: Oral, 3/5~1 tablet/10kg for adults, take on an empty stomach or before bedtime, 1 tablet/10kg for children.
2. Hookworm removal: Oral, 3/5~1 tablet/10kg, once a night, for 3 consecutive days.
3. Treatment of filariasis: 1~2 tablets/10kg, divided into 2~3 doses, for 3 consecutive days.
