Ectoine is a natural cell protectant, an amino acid derivative produced by bacteria living in extremely harsh environmental conditions. Ectoine is used as an osmo-regulatory Chemicalbook-compatible solute to increase the hydration of the skin surface and stabilize the lipid layer, and is commonly used in skin care. Ectoine has a good safety profile and can be used to study allergic rhinitis. Ectoine is also called tetrahydromethylpyrimidine carboxylic acid. The ectoine protects halophilic bacteria from harm, and it has two main functions: 1) Moisturizing: It is an important substance to maintain the balance of osmotic pressure. Its unique molecular structure has a strong ability to complex water molecules, which can make the free water in the cells structured. It is an excellent natural moisturizing agent. 2) Repair: ectoine can resist the damage of ultraviolet rays to the skin and repair the cell DNA damage caused by ultraviolet rays.
