Azilsartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB) antihypertensive drug developed by Takeda Pharmaceuticals of Japan for the treatment of hypertension. Its prodrug is Azilsartan potassium.

Mesartan potassium (azilsartan prodrug) is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB) that can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs.
Azilsartan is mainly used to treat hypertension, and it also has the effect of preventing left ventricular remodeling and delaying renal damage in clinical practice. Azilsartan has a significant effect on lowering blood pressure. A six-week trial involving 1,291 patients compared 40 mg and 80 mg of azilsartan medoxomil and 40 mg of olmesartan medoxomil (Benicar ®, developed by Daiichi Pharmaceutical Sankyo Co., Ltd.) or 320 mg of valsartan, and the results showed that 40 mg of azilsartan medoxomil reduced blood pressure by 13.4 mmHg, and 80 mg of azilsartan medoxomil reduced blood pressure by 14.5 mmHg, 40 mg of Benicar is 12 mmHg, and 320 grams of valsartan is 10.2 mmHg.
Another six-week trial compared 20 mg, 40 mg, and 80 mg of azilsartan medoxomil with 40 mg of olmesartan medoxomil, with a total of 1,272 patients participating. The results showed that 20 mg of azilsartan medoxomil could lower blood pressure by 10.8 mmHg, 40 mg of azilsartan medoxomil could lower blood pressure by 12.1 mmHg, 80 mg of azilsartan medoxomil could lower blood pressure by 13.2 mmHg, and 40 mg of olmesartan medoxomil could lower blood pressure by 1.
