Its irregularly curled state in solution and hydrodynamic properties confer important physical properties such as humectancy, lubricity, viscoelasticity and pseudoplasticity, which are involved in tissue hydration and structural scaffolding, as well as providing viscoelasticity, which produces lubrication and shock-absorbing functions.
