L-fucose is one of the eight essential sugars in the human body and one of the oligosaccharides in human milk (which also contains sialic acid, N-acetylglucosamine, D-glucose, and D-galactose). It is an ideal dietary supplement and nutritional supplement for infant food, as well as an immune enhancer. L-fucose also has various uses in the field of cosmetics, such as as as a skin moisturizer, skin regenerator, and anti-aging agent, or for preventing epidermal (skin) inflammation. |

Most of the fucose present in nature is L-fucose, and the D-type fucose is only used as a rare sugar and is found in some glycoglycerides. L-fucose is present in a large amount of seaweed and gums and is also found in certain bacterial polysaccharides. Fucose is a component of sugar chains in glycoproteins and is found on plasma membranes of various cell surfaces.
Fucose is less than the average hexavalent carbon on the sixth carbon atom, so fucose is less hydrophilic than other monosaccharides and is somewhat more hydrophobic. Fucose in certain blood-type substance molecules is a marker of a certain blood type. Fucose is usually extracted from seaweed, first treated with acid, neutralized, in the form of phenyl hydrazone precipitation, availableα-L-fucose crystals.
