Fibronectin 

 

Fibronectin (Fn) is a high molecular weight glycoprotein in the extracellular matrix. It exists mainly in three forms, namely, plasma fibronectin produced by hepatocytes or endothelial cells, cellular fibronectin secreted and synthesized by fibroblasts and early mesenchymal cells, and fetal fibronectin in placenta and amniotic tissue.

Wound repair In the initial coagulation stage of trauma, fibronectin is released from platelets and cross-links with plasma transglutaminase and fibrin to play adhesion, chemotaxis, conditioning and phagocytosis. Fibronectin activates neutrophils, enhances their adhesion and accelerates their aggregation to the wound area. In the middle stage of wound repair, fibronectin is an important chemotactic factor for fibroblasts. When fibronectin adheres to the blood clot after cross-linking with fibrin, it helps fibroblasts move on it and quickly enter the wound area. Fibroblasts entering the wound area can secrete a large amount of fibronectin and deposit it in the intercellular matrix together with type III collagen. In the process of granulation tissue formation and gradual maturation, fibroblasts and keratinocytes have phagocytosis of collagen or tissue fragments wrapped in fibronectin. There are fibroblasts attached with fibronectin at the wound edge and in the granulation tissue. As a matrix factor with important biological functions, fibronectin plays an important role in all stages of wound repair.
