Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin. Folic acid (folate, folic acid) belongs to vitamin B9. It is a water-soluble vitamin and a general term for compounds with similar chemical structures. It is composed of pteridine, p-para-aminobenzoic acid and one or more L-glutamic acids conjugated. Its biologically active form is tetrahydrofolic acid (THFA). The molecular formula of folic acid is C19H19N7O6. It is named because it is very rich in green leaves, also known as pteroylglutamic acid.
Folic acid contains one or more glutamyl groups, and most of the naturally occurring folic acid is in the form of polyglutamic acid. The biologically active form of folic acid is tetrahydrofolic acid. Folic acid is a yellow crystal, slightly soluble in water, but its sodium salt is very soluble in water. It is insoluble in ethanol. It is easily destroyed in acidic solutions, unstable to heat, easily lost at room temperature, and easily destroyed by light.
The importance of folic acid in the diet has gradually been recognized, especially the research on folic acid and birth defects, cardiovascular diseases, tumors and neurodegenerative diseases has been continuously deepened, and it has become an extremely important micronutrient. Folic acid plays an important role in cell proliferation, promoting human growth and development, and maintaining human health. Only with the participation of folic acid in the metabolism of one-carbon units in the body can substances such as purine and pyrimidine be further synthesized, thereby ensuring the synthesis of protein and DNA. Although some foods are rich in folic acid, due to the instability of the physical and chemical structure of folic acid, it is easily affected by oxygen, light, high temperature and pH value and decomposes. Therefore, the loss of folic acid in the food processing process is very obvious, which also leads to the fact that the amount of folic acid ingested by the human body through the diet cannot fully meet the daily needs.

Folic acid is a B vitamin that can promote cell growth and reproduction, prevent gene mutation, and treat folic acid deficiency and anemia.
Main diseases
It is used to treat folic acid deficiency caused by various reasons and megaloblastic anemia caused by folic acid deficiency. It can also be used for preventive treatment before pregnancy and in the first 3 months of pregnancy to reduce the risk of fetal neural tube defects.
